LAGNIAPPE is a Spanish word, fermented in a little French. It was originally used to signify when merchants gave a customer a small gift at the time of purchase, like a 13th donut with the purchase of a dozen. In New Orleans' culture Lagniappe expanded its meaning to include anytime "a little something extra" was involved. Mark Twain once called it "a word worth traveling to New Orleans to get." In the case of this website, the Lagniappe page will be a little extra content which has nothing to do with anything. We'll change it every so often, at no measured intervals, and for no particular reason, other than to give repeat visitors something new to see.

Right now, we display three Top Five Lists-- the Top Five styles of hats, the Top Five Annual Events in America, and the Top Five cartoon characters. Why? Because about the only thing many of us enjoy more than list making (Hollywood's Worst Dressed, The Greatest NFL Dynasty) is arguing about somebody else's list. We've seen lifelong friends nearly come to blows over whether the sexiest red head is Ann Margaret or Jessica Rabbit. So, we hope our list makes you madder than Hell. "How dare they leave both Ren and Stimpy off the Top Five cartoon character list!"
